There are endless ramifications to every event and choice, and while it's easy to get caught up in the frustration of not getting our way, each one presents opportunities for choices, which can have a dramatic impact on the course of our life.At every turn we are faced with choices: Do I choose to focus on the dark or empty part or the full and light side? Do I choose to become a victim of life's events or do I choose to look for what's right about it? Do I go the same way each time or do I allow myself the luxury of a few extra minutes to take another route? Many times we will not see the positive side of things until much further down the road. Whatever the event, it may force us onto another path, one which is much more suited to our soul's evolution. When we focus upon what we lost, we deny the opportunity to move forward.Starting 30+ years ago, I had a series of "accidents" which changed my life. I was forced to learn about pain, suffering and healing. One of the biggest things I learned was that the suffering part is optional. Today I would not go back and change the past for anything. It is what brought me to a career in helping others, understanding about my connection to a higher power, and the lesson of surrender. The server hosting my website and e-mail accounts went down twice in the past week for over five days now and I am without the lifeline which for me, didn't even exist twenty years ago. Now there are plenty of reasons why the internet is important to me, not the least being that a majority of my work comes in through that portal. Once more I was offered the choice of going into angst about my future or surrender on an even deeper level. I chose surrender and this article is one of the resulting silver linings.Three years ago I had a spontaneous opening into a state of bliss for several weeks until I purposely dampened it down in concern over my worldly responsibilities. Since then I have danced along the edge letting those concerns be the anchor which held one foot in linear reality. Today, as I surrender on ever deeper levels, the issues brought up by the server crash, the bliss comes to the forefront, and I realize that all that, is unimportant to me. I know that whatever needs to happen, will and that the best thing that I can do for my clients, friends and the planet, is to allow that state of unconditional love to expand, infusing me with it's radiance. The same situation is the impetus which is pushing my webmaster to create his own data center, which will give him more opportunities to attract additional business. He has the hardware but was hesitating to move forward with it. Now it will open more opportunities to be of service to a whole new clientele. There are many different ways to express this same concept. One enquiry that could help one bypass the automatic negative response and open to new possibilities is; What's right about this that I'm not getting? Another might be; what's the flip side of this? Or; where's the silver lining? The question is there to create an opening to the new possibilities which might otherwise be missed if one is focused on the loss. Just the act of surrendering our past programmed responses may be enough to launch us into the next level of consciousness, bringing us one step closer to freedom. |

The issues underlying our dysfunctional programs are layered like an onion. We peel back one layer only to find a juicier one underneath. The bigger and juicier it is, the more often we may stop to wipe our eyes and regain our determination. While it may seem tiresome and sometimes daunting, each layer brings us closer to the center.
