In honor of the upcoming Inauguration of President-elect Obama, women everywhere will be showcasing their pearls in admiration of their favorite First Lady. Getting those glamorous looks is much easier and more affordable than you may think and could work out well for a great gift for your own “First Lady.”
“From chic and classic, First Ladies have made their mark on the world of pearls," Jacqui Pini of online pearl retailer Museum Way Pearls said. "The tradition of classy and timeless collections of jewelry brought to the White House by these elegant women will continue with the arrival of Michelle Obama.”
Ms. Pini rattled off some of the favorite styles adorned by America’s women in the White House throughout time and attributes a pearl selection to each of them.
Lady Bird's lively colors: Never one to be afraid of color in her wardrobe, Lady Bird Johnson was often seen in vivid styles. In honor of her vibrant wardrobe, a multi-color strand of freshwater pearls is a great pick. Many online pearl retailers have several colorful pearl styles to choose from, including pink and lavender, with matching necklaces, bracelets and earrings to honor Lady Bird Johnson.
Jackie's brilliant jewels: In choosing a necklace in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the triple strand pearl necklace is a must. Museum Way Pearls offers white triple-strand freshwater pearl necklaces fastened with a yellow or white solid 14 K gold clasp, starting at $267.50. Although she did not make it to the White House, the elegant triple strand of pearls worn by the always elegant Cindy McCain did not go unnoticed either. Senator McCain’s faithful have been flooding pearl retailers with orders this holiday season for this magnificent and affordable necklace.
Reagan Red: Often criticized for her spending, but commended for bringing fashion back to the White House, Nancy Reagan couldn't resist glamorous clothing and jewelry. Reagan loved red and wore a bold shade so often that it became known as "Reagan Red." A woman like Mrs. Reagan deserves a strand of baroque Tahitian pearls, which are bold and unique. So if Nancy Reagan is your favorite First Lady this is the choice for you.
Laura's luminous studs: Noted as having a classic, feminine style, Laura Bush often wears pearl earrings. If you have similar style, you may want to try a pair of single stud 8.0-8.5mm white Akoya pearl earrings or one a pair of white freshwater earrings.
Michelle's magnificent earrings: Our future First Lady Michelle Obama balances off her colorful shift dresses with a larger pearl choker as well as large white pearl stud earrings. To get this look there is nothing like the satiny white South Sea pearl earrings in a 10-11mm size. Mrs. Obama and your favorite First Lady will be wearing these for terms to come.
So when you are watching the upcoming Inauguration in your favorite “First Lady” pearls, remember the job of a First Lady is not always easy, yet her style can be simple and timeless. The fashion choices she makes can impact us for years. Keep a close eye on Michelle Obama as she has potential to not only make waves in the White House with her intellect, but also with her remarkable sense of style.
