When you decide to take your Land Rover Discovery off road it is essential that you carry the right equipment. Whenever I go of on my Off Road 4x4 adventures I always carry the following essential eqipment.Spare wheel. In good condition (As my Land Rover Discovery tyres are 18inch I had to carry an extra spare tyre as it is difficult to get 18 inch tyres in Morocco. (You could end up paying extortionate prices).Tow rope. A good quality towing rope between 5-10 metres is required. When you are stuck in soft ground. Make sure the vehicle that is recovering you is not on the same soft ground as you. When connecting your vehicles use shackles attached to a proper rope that have spliced ends. You can buy readymade towing ropes or have them made. You can also buy a Kinetic rope for recovering you're stuck off road 4x4. (You must know how to use this rope safely). If you decide to go down the route of steel tow rope and you are using it to pull out a vehicle that is stuck in sand or mud, make sure you place a heavy coat or cover on the cable to reduce the cable from flying through tha air and causing serious injury or damage.Use D shackles or a Bow shackle with these ropes is the safest way of connecting the rope.Shovel. The most popular seems to be the Army folding type shovel which is easy to stow away in your Land Rover. Long handle type shovel make things a good bit easier at getting sand out from underneath your Land Rover. When purchasing your air compressor make sure that it is capable of inflating your Land Rover size tyre,. In some accessory shops you will find that some air compressors are not up to the job. When I was in Morocco some people were struggling to get their tyre to re-inflate before we could go back onto the tracks as the air compressor was not up to the job.Tent. The tent I used on my first trip to Morocco was very difficult to erect especially in windy conditions. When you are putting your tent up and down every day it is just not practical the length of time it takes. It required two persons to erect this tent. But you learn from your mistakes and I had changed my tent for my next adventure to Oz RV3 tent which I can recommend as doing as advertised. It can be erected in 30seconds.
Author Resource Required for Reprint: The day you decide not to carry your essential equipment is the day you will need it. So when you take your Land Rover off road it is essential that you carry the right equipment for any off road adventures.
